The typical foods of each region always arouse great curiosity and appetite. They are marked by ingredients which are usually local or with specific preparation methods, stimulating even stronger the urge to discover such specific cuisine.
In this text, we will be taking you through 3 regional foods and the vegan ways to prepare them! Are you curious? Come with us!
“Tutu de feijão”
Tutu, one of the most popular dishes from the southern part of our country, is made with beans (carioca or black) beaten in a blender and finished with manioc or corn flour. You can easily swap the bacon and sausage for vegetable sausages. The bacon can be made with tofu: cut into small squares and roasted with paprika, powdered smoke, and garlic sauce, then whisked with the flour and sausages.
Serve with rice of your choice, braised cabbage and grilled banana.
“Baião de dois”
The typical northeastern food is also widely found in the north of the country. It uses rice, beans (here we use rope), onions, tomatoes and coriander. The dish can also be prepared vegan with vegetables sausage, tofu bacon, vegetable ham, cassava, and pepper to taste. Take care not to let the dish be too dry by soaking beans with water before serving.
“Cuscuz paulista”
Vegans can make the dish vegan by replacing the eggs and sardines with mushrooms and heart of palm. The dish may be served either warm or cold, so it is perfect in the summer. It is also excellent with rice, black beans, and cabbage, or just a nice green salad.

It is possible 🙂 In general, these foods are expensive items and might scare someone who does not have access to them. You can still eat really well with natural little things, but here is a tip for those who want to be innovative from time to time. Anyway, consider veganism!
