The surrealism of Pris Lo

Priscila Lopes is our third artist from the Verdandi project. She is from Brasília, Brazil, but currently lives in Ribeirão Preto in the outskirts of São Paulo. She is 30 years old. She had already participated in some exhibitions, having as her main exhibition the 1st International Biennial of Psychedelic Art, held in Campinas.

The artist has been interested in art since she was a child, but at the age of 14 she started a more professional work involving the visual arts. SInce then, she has already gone through photography, product design and graphic design, where she enters her work with digital collages exposed in the Verdandi project.

Through her work, Priscila seeks to leave a legacy, to interfere in a positive way in the behavior of the people, to change thoughts and to lead all  for a construction of a critical vision. Today, her main desire and motivation is to spread the message of naturalization of a woman’s naked body, the importance of self-knowledge and the value that plurality / diversity has for the development of the human being. Her intention is to generate important discussions about great themes that people already have pre-built ideas and do not want to deconstruct them. Thus, Priscilla describes her work in 5 words: resistance, love, resilience, critical thinking and philosophy.

Check below the artist’s own statement about her art:

“A lover of the arts since I’ve known myself, I’ve always felt a strong urge to express myself through it. I worked with fashion, decoration, handicrafts and now I dedicate myself to digital art, where I develop works of analogue collages (hand cut, scissors and styling) and digital (through photoshop).

My greatest motivation in creating is the need of passing on reflections, concepts and messages that can aggregate the thoughts of people through the valuation of what is different, since the human being still perceives the different as something abnormal just because it does not fit into the standards he knows and accepts. Many things are subjective, complex, and relative, and can be analyzed under various strands and understood in innumerable ways. In this way, I exalt what is complex and demystify what is different or distant from the understanding.

It is necessary to understand how much diversity in the world can be beneficial. What is lacking in one individual may be a complementary feature of the other. Trying to make people aware through art is like a mission for me, and I am thus propagating humanistic and humanitarian messages, exalting the positive and negative characteristics of the human being as powers that can aggregate rather than segregate. I make my art as a means of instigating reflection and of giving visibility to minorities. I make my art as a form of resistance. “

The artist currently uses the technique of digital collage in Photoshop and the base of  her main lines of thought is on surrealism and pop art. Her concept goes from a mix of past and future, from vintage to futuristic, from classic to contemporary. Priscila is a clear example of the application of the Creative Economy, where she uses the creation of visual art for value generation, creating arts for clothes pieces, covers and inserts for CDs, advertising Gifs, among other works.
